The Branding tab is where you give your Bloom an identity that fits your course. You set three things on this tab: the AI Name the tutor calls itself, the Page Header shown above the chat, and the Signature Emoji the AI uses throughout conversations. Together they take a generic AI tutor and turn it into Newton for your physics class or Athena for ancient history, with a course code in the header so students know they are in the right place.
Branding lives on its own configuration tab, separate from the Pedagogy tab where you tune how the AI teaches. This article covers branding only.
Before you start
- A Bloom you have already created. If not, see Create your first Bloom.
- The Update Branding permission on that Bloom. Educators and managers have it by default; students do not. If you see a locked banner reading “You don’t have permission to change branding settings. Contact a Bloom Admin to modify these settings,” ask a manager to grant you the role.
- To customise any of the three fields, your teaching space needs white-label options enabled. This is on by default for paid plans. On Free spaces the fields are read-only and show a description like “You do not have the option to customize the AI name.”
Step 1: Open the Branding tab
From the Manage Blooms dashboard, open the Bloom you want to brand and click Configuration in its sidebar. At the top of the page, the configuration tabs include Initial Setup, Knowledge Base, Pedagogy, and Branding. Click Branding.
Step 2: Set the AI Name
The AI Name is the name your Bloom uses for itself in chat. The field description in the product reads “Choose a name for this AI.” The default is Bloom, and students will see this name in the AI’s self-references and in the chat avatar tooltip.
Step 3: Set the Page Header
The Page Header is the text shown at the top of the chat page. The product describes this field as “Set the header text displayed at the top of the page.” Use it to anchor the chat to a course, a unit, or a cohort, so students who land directly on the chat URL immediately recognise where they are.
Good page headers are short and concrete:
- MATH1120 Tutor
- Year 11 Biology, Cells & Genetics
- HIST201 Study Buddy
Step 4: Pick a Signature Emoji
The Signature Emoji is a single emoji the AI weaves into its replies as a small visual signature. The product description reads “Choose a signature emoji for your AI. This emoji will be used throughout conversations. Default is 🌱”.
Click the emoji button (showing the current emoji) to open the picker. The picker is a popover with a search field at the top, prompt text “Search emoji...”, and the standard emoji category navigation. Type to filter, then click any emoji to apply. Skin-tone variants are disabled by design so the signature stays consistent across students.
Step 5: Save and verify
Click Save at the bottom of the page. The branding updates apply to every new chat session immediately. Open a chat as yourself, or use View as Student in the top right, to verify:
- The chat header at the top of the page shows your new Page Header.
- The AI introduces itself with the new AI Name in its first reply.
- The Signature Emoji appears as the AI’s sign-off or accent on its messages.
Common issues
All three fields are read-only
Your teaching space does not have white-label options enabled. The field descriptions will read “You do not have the option to customize the AI name,” “You do not have the option to customize the page header,” and “You do not have the option to customize the emoji.” Ask your space owner to upgrade the plan or enable white-label.
I see a locked banner at the top of the tab
You do not hold the Update Branding permission on this Bloom. The banner reads “You don’t have permission to change branding settings. Contact a Bloom Admin to modify these settings.” A manager or space owner can grant you the role.
An open chat still shows the old name or emoji
Branding applies to new messages, not to history that has already rendered. Refresh the page or send a new message and the updated values will appear.
The emoji button is empty
The emoji field has been cleared. Open the picker and select any emoji to restore a signature. The product default is .
