The Code workspace gives you an editor beside your conversation with Bloom. Use it to try a short program, inspect its output, and ask questions as you work.
Open Code
- Open your Bloom and the conversation you want to work in.
- Open the Workspace and choose Code.
- Type or paste your code into the editor.
If Code is missing, ask your educator whether the tool is enabled for this Bloom.
Choose a language
Use the language menu above the editor:
| Option | What you can do |
|---|---|
| JavaScript | Run a short program and read its console output. |
| Python | Run a short program after the Python tool finishes loading. |
| HTML | Preview a page inside the Workspace. |
| Other | Edit and discuss code without running it in Bloom. |
Changing the menu does not translate your code into another language. Choose the option that matches what you wrote.
Run and review your work
Select Run for JavaScript or Python, or Preview for HTML. You can also press ⌘ Enter on Mac or Ctrl Enter on Windows while in the editor. Read the output or preview below your code, make a change, then run it again.
Ask Bloom for help
Keep Code open while asking about your work. Explain what you expected, what happened, and what you have already tried. For example: “This loop prints one extra value. Can you help me find why without rewriting the solution?”
If there is an error, include its message in your question. The amount of code or guidance Bloom provides depends on your educator’s teaching settings.
Save and return later
Code changes save automatically with the conversation. Check the save status above the editor before leaving. Return to the same conversation and open Code to continue your work.
If a save fails, keep a copy of your code, check your connection, and use Retry when it is shown. Wait for the save to finish before closing the page.
Common issues
There is no Run button
Other is for editing only. Choose JavaScript or Python to run supported code, or HTML to preview a page.
The Run button is unavailable
Wait for the editor and language tools to load and for any current run to finish. If loading fails, keep a copy of your work and check your connection before reopening the conversation.
My program times out
Check for a loop that never ends, reduce the amount of work, or try a smaller example. Use your own coding environment for longer-running tasks.
I only want to share a code snippet
You can paste it directly into chat. See maths and code in chat for formatting tips.
