How to use Deep Think mode

To use Deep Think, open any chat in your Bloom, click the Deep Think toggle (the lightbulb button) below the message box, and send your question. Bloom switches to a more advanced reasoning model for that single message. Each Deep Think message counts toward your weekly limit (typically 100 per user on paid plans), so reach for it when a question genuinely needs deeper analysis, not for every reply.

Standard chat is fast and good enough for most questions. Deep Think trades a few extra seconds of wait for noticeably better answers on multi-step problems, proofs, and nuanced analysis. You toggle it per-message, so there is no need to leave it on for an entire conversation.

When to use Deep Think

Reach for Deep Think when the question:

  • Has multiple steps that build on each other (a proof, a derivation, a chain of inferences).
  • Asks Bloom to weigh trade-offs or compare arguments, essay analysis, ethical dilemmas, debates.
  • Involves logic puzzles, formal reasoning, or maths beyond plug-and-chug.
  • Requires Bloom to read a long passage from your course materials and synthesise an answer that ties several sections together.

For quick recall (“What is mitosis?”), simple definitions, or chatty follow-ups, leave Deep Think off. Standard mode is faster and does not consume your weekly Deep Think allowance.

Before you start

  • A Bloom you are enrolled in. Sign in at app.bloom.study and open any Bloom from the sidebar.
  • A plan that includes Deep Think messages. Educator Plus, Growth, and Enterprise plans include 100 Deep Think messages per user per week on staff seats; Free-tier limits are smaller. Limits reset weekly.
  • Note: Deep Think is not available in guest chats. Guests will see the toggle in a permanently disabled state.

Step 1: Turn on Deep Think

Open the chat for any Bloom. Below the message input, you will see a row of toggle buttons. Click the lightbulb labelled Deep Think. The button highlights to confirm it is on.

On hover, the tooltip shows “Think for longer to improve accuracy.” If you have a weekly limit configured, it adds your remaining count, for example, “Think for longer to improve accuracy. 87 uses left this week.”

Step 2: Send your question

Type your question in the message box and send. Deep Think applies to that message only. The response takes longer than a standard message because the underlying reasoning model works through the problem step by step before replying, expect anywhere from a few extra seconds to roughly a minute on harder problems.

Under the hood, Bloom swaps the chat model for the configured reasoning model for that single turn. The conversation history is preserved, so follow-up messages still have full context whether or not Deep Think is on.

Step 3: Check your remaining uses

Hover the Deep Think button at any time. The tooltip shows your remaining weekly uses in plain English, for example “1 use left this week” on the last one. The counter updates after every Deep Think message you send.

When you send the message that brings you to your limit, Bloom automatically switches the toggle off and disables it for the rest of the week. Standard chat continues to work normally, only Deep Think is paused.

Common issues

Tooltip says “You’ve used all your Deep Think messages this week”

You have hit your weekly Deep Think allowance for this Bloom. The toggle is disabled until the weekly reset. You can keep chatting in standard mode in the meantime, your regular message allowance is separate. If you regularly run out, ask your Space Owner to upgrade the plan or to raise the limit at the Bloom level.

Deep Think button is missing from the chat

Two likely reasons: you are in a guest chat (Deep Think is unavailable for guests), or your educator has switched the Bloom to a configuration that hides the option. Sign in with your full account, or contact your educator.

Replies are slow even on simple questions

Check whether the Deep Think button is highlighted, it stays on between messages until you click it off. Reasoning models take longer by design. If you only need a quick definition, click the lightbulb to switch back to standard mode and the next reply will be noticeably faster.

I don’t see a remaining-uses count in the tooltip

That means your plan or Bloom is configured with no per-week Deep Think limit (effectively unlimited within the system hard cap). The tooltip will simply read “Think for longer to improve accuracy.” with no count appended.
