A course knowledge graph maps the skills students are working towards and the prerequisites connecting them. Bloom can propose these learning components from your course materials. You review the suggestions and their sources before approving what belongs in your course.
Before you start
- Create and save your Bloom, then upload and process your course materials.
- Use an account that can edit the Bloom's configuration.
- Learning Components must be enabled for your Teaching Space. If the tab is missing, check with your Space Owner or the Bloom team.
1. Choose your course materials
Open your Bloom's settings, select Learning Components, and choose Generate. You can use all available documents or limit the analysis to selected sources. Start with a focused course guide, set of readings, or lesson materials.
2. Review the suggested topics
Ask Bloom to suggest topics from your selected materials. Review the list and keep the topics relevant to your lesson before generating components. In the video, the educator focuses on concentration, membrane permeability, and osmosis.
3. Review and approve learning components
After generation, review each proposed component. Its description should identify something a student should be able to do. Check the source document and whether the skill belongs in your course. Approve the components you want to keep.
4. Explore prerequisites and sources
Switch from List to Graph. Arrows run from a prerequisite to the skill it supports. In the example, comparing concentrations and understanding selective permeability support explaining osmosis, which then supports predicting changes in cell volume.
Select a component to inspect its prerequisites and source documents. Drag cards to rearrange the view and make connections easier to inspect. Rearranging the view does not change which skills are prerequisites.
Common questions
Why can't I generate components?
Check that the Bloom is saved and its course materials have finished processing. If Generate shows a usage limit, follow the limit and reset information shown in the settings. For a missing Learning Components tab, check whether the feature is enabled for your Teaching Space.
Does the graph show student grades?
No. It describes course skills and their relationships. It provides a foundation for estimating mastery from evidence in student conversations. Those estimates are indicators to review alongside other evidence, not grades or proof that a student can perform independently.
