Attach a document or image when you want help with a particular reading, diagram, or piece of work. Add a question with the file so Bloom knows what you want to understand.
Choose the right upload
- Chat attachment: send a file with your message to discuss it in that conversation.
- Knowledge Base: educators add course materials for their Bloom to use across conversations.
- Library: read the course materials your educator has made available to you.
Attaching a file to chat does not add it to the shared Knowledge Base. If you are preparing materials for a class, follow Upload course materials instead.
Supported files and limits
- Documents: PDF, DOCX, and DOC.
- Images: PNG, JPEG, WebP, and non-animated GIF.
- Size: up to 10 MB per file.
The upload control will tell you if you have reached the number of files allowed in a message. Spreadsheets, slide decks, and videos use the educator’s Knowledge Base upload flow; they are not supported as direct chat attachments.
Attach a file and ask a question
- Open the Bloom and conversation you want to use.
- Select the + beside the message box, then Add images & files, or drag a supported file onto the message box.
- Check the attachment preview. Use its remove button if you selected the wrong file.
- Write a question, such as “Explain the diagram on page 2” or “Give me feedback on the reasoning in this paragraph.”
- Send the message and wait while Bloom reads the attachment and responds.
You can also paste an image from your clipboard into the message box.
Get useful answers
Name the file or page you mean, especially if you attached more than one. Use clear images with readable text and include the relevant part of the document. For a long reading, start with one section and ask follow-up questions.
Common issues
The file type is not supported
Check the formats above. Export a document to PDF if needed; changing its filename extension alone does not convert it.
The file is too large
Reduce its size or save just the pages you need, then attach a copy under 10 MB. Keep the original on your device.
Bloom could not read the whole document
Try a smaller section, an unlocked copy, or a clearer scan. Bloom may reject an attachment it cannot read completely. Check any error message and try again with a readable file.
Processing is busy or the message fails
Keep a copy of your question and check your connection. Follow the message shown before retrying. If the problem continues, contact hi@bloom.study with the file type and error message.
