How to navigate Bloom

After you sign in at app.bloom.study, Bloom opens with a left sidebar for navigation, a main content area for whichever page you are on, and an avatar menu in the top-right corner. The sidebar holds your main destinations: chat, Blooms, quizzes, analytics, and getting-started resources, plus a teaching space dropdown for billing, users, and settings.

The layout at a glance

Every page in Bloom uses the same shell: a collapsible left sidebar, the main page content, and a small avatar button in the top-right. Clicking an item in the sidebar swaps the main area; clicking the avatar opens your account menu.

The left sidebar

The sidebar is your primary navigation. Educators with a fully provisioned teaching space see up to five items, in this order:

  1. Chatopens in a new tab: opens the AI tutor where you talk to your selected Bloom.
  2. Manage Bloomsopens in a new tab: lists every Bloom in the current teaching space. New Blooms are created from here.
  3. Manage Quizzesopens in a new tab: the quiz builder.
  4. Analyticsopens in a new tab: engagement and learning analytics.
  5. Getting Startedopens in a new tab: onboarding resources.

Teaching Space dropdown

A Teaching Space is the workspace that contains your Blooms, users, and billing. The dropdown at the bottom of the sidebar shows the current space’s name and icon. Clicking it opens a menu with the following items (visible items depend on your role and plan):

  • Upgrade Plan: sends you to the pricing page if your plan supports self-service upgrade.
  • Billing: opens the customer portal in a new tab so you can manage payment methods and invoices.
  • Plan & Benefits: your current plan summary at /dashboard/plan.
  • Users: invite, remove, and change roles for everyone in the space.
  • Settings: rename the space, change the icon, and adjust other space-level settings.

The avatar menu (top-right)

Click your avatar in the top-right corner of any page. The dropdown shows your email, your preferred name if you set one, and a theme toggle. Below that you will find:

  • Edit Profile: open the profile modal to update your name and avatar.
  • Take a Tour: replays the onboarding tour where it is available.
  • Keyboard Shortcuts: opens the shortcuts panel where it is available.
  • Student Mode: a switch that previews the app as a student. This appears for educators when the student preview is available.
  • Logout: signs you out and clears your local layout state.

A small version date (for example, May 13 Version) appears just above the logout row. This is the deployment date of the build you are currently using, useful when reporting bugs.

Student vs educator views

Bloom hides items rather than greying them out. Students therefore see a much shorter sidebar:

  • Chat at the top, with their conversation history grouped beneath it.
  • The current teaching space’s name and icon, but no dropdown, since they cannot manage the space.

Students do not see Manage Blooms, Manage Quizzes, or Analytics. Educators who turn on Student Mode from the avatar menu see exactly this layout.

Mobile layout

On phones and tablets, the sidebar collapses into a menu button. Open it with the toggle in the top-left to see the same items as desktop. The avatar menu also adapts: Student Mode appears as a switch inside the dropdown rather than as a separate top-bar control, since the chat header has less room.

Common issues

I do not see Manage Blooms or Analytics

These items depend on your role. If you joined a teaching space as a member rather than an owner, ask a Space Owner to update your role, or have them invite you with educator or manager access on a specific Bloom.

The teaching space dropdown shows “No Space Selected”

You are signed in but not enrolled in any space. Either accept a pending invite, join a Bloom with a class code, or create your own space from the dropdown.

The Upgrade Plan button is missing

You are not on a plan that supports self-service upgrade (for example, Enterprise), or your role cannot manage billing. Contact your Space Owner or hi@bloom.study.
